How do storage power plants work?
The central element of a storage power plant is the reservoir or storage basin. In alpine locations reservoirs are formed from the accumulation of snowmelt and precipitation, while in lower-lying regions storage basins are often fed via canals from nearby rivers. As electricity demand rises, the water rushes down through the pressure pipelines at more than 100 km/h to the turbines that drive the generator to produce electricity. After passing through the turbine, the water returns to a river and follows its natural course.
