Revitalisation in Jettenbach-Töging
VERBUND renovates the Jettenbach-Töging hydropower plant. The plant is to supply around 200,000 households with clean, domestic electricity in the future.
VERBUND has completely renovated the Jettenbach-Töging hydroelectric power plant. The plant supplies 200,000 households with clean, domestic electricity from the Inn.
The power plant has been back in operation since 2022, following its revitalisation.

A review of the history of the Töging canal power plant will be given to mark its centenary.

Between 1919 and 1924, a pioneering hydropower project was created with the Töging am Inn diversion power plant: the weir system near Jettenbach-Aschau, the almost 23-kilometre-long Inn canal and the historic power house were built. Until electricity generation ceased in 2021, 14 machine sets with a total output of 85 MW generated 557 GWh of electricity annually.
After only four years of construction, the new powerhouse was completed in 2022, its architecture respectfully subordinate to the existing listed building. Three modern machine sets with Kaplan turbines now enable an impressive increase in output of around 40 per cent to 120 MW and an increase in annual electricity generation of around 25 per cent to 697 GWh. With an investment of around 250 million euros, the Töging power station now generates clean electricity for around 200,000 Bavarian households – a successful combination of almost a century of engineering expertise and state-of-the-art hydropower technology.
As part of the modernisation, the Inn Canal was upgraded to handle increased water volumes and the Jettenbach-Aschau weir, where the Inn Canal originates, was completely rebuilt.
