VERBUND's power plant at Staning is a run-of-river plant situated on the river Enns and in between the towns of Staning and Hainbuch in Upper Austria.
The Staning power plant was built between 1941 and 1946. The impellers and generators were replaced machine by machine between 1983 and 1985. Three vertically installed Kaplan turbines now generate around 203 GWh of electricity per year.

Three vertically mounted Kaplan turbines achieve a maximum output of 14,300 kW at a flow rate of 100 m³/sec. and a head of 13.10 metres. The directly coupled 18,500 kVA three-phase generators supply a nominal voltage of 6.3 kV.
The power plant has three 16,000 kVA machine transformers for raising the generated energy from 6.3 kV to 110 kV. The electricity is discharged via a 110 kV triple line to the Ernsthofen substation. The power plant’s own requirements are met by a 400 kVA transformer for the voltages 6.3 kV/400 V.
Each of the five weir fields is equipped with a 2.8 metre-high segment gate, a 6 metre-high concrete stop-log and on top of that a roller gate with 4.4 metre-high closure height. Since the year 2000, the power plants on the Enns have been controlled from the control room in Stey

The Staning power plant was equipped with a fish bypass at the time of construction; this was extensively modernised in 2000 and adapted to the state of technology. The basin pass overcomes a height difference of 14.2 metres. However, in terms of type, size and the quantity of feed water, the plant does not meet the latest requirements of the Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism (BMLFUW) of 2012. A further revision is therefore being planned:
