Tyrol's second-largest pumped storage power plant, Rosshag, is in the municipality of Ginzling in the Zillertal Valley.
The Schlegeis reservoir at an altitude of almost 1,800 m supplies the water for the power plant. The Schlegeis alpine road takes a spectacular path past waterfalls and through natural rock tunnels into the breathtaking high mountains of the Zillertal up to the Schlegeis dam. Here, you can combine a wonderful mountain experience with a visit behind the scenes of hydropower on a guided tour of the dam wall.
More efficiency to ensure security of supply
VERBUND started investing heavily in efficiency enhancements at the Mayrhofen and Roßhag power plants in 2011. The modernisation of turbine, pump and generator components resulted in a 2% increase in efficiency. Over 70,000 households can thus be supplied with green electricity.
