VERBUND's Oberaudorf-Ebbs power plant is a run-of-river power plant on the Inn River, north of the town of Kufstein between the municipalities of Ebbs (Tyrol) and Oberaudorf (Bavaria).
Hydropower plants can make connections, as in the case of the Oberaudorf-Ebbs power plant. The Oberaudorf-Ebbs hydropower plant creates a bridge over the Inn river between the Tyrol and Bavaria and thus connects the two countries which are separated in this region by this mighty waterway.
The power plant has been in operation since 1992 and generates green electricity entirely from hydropower. A special feature of the power plant is the colourful fish bypass, which was lovingly painted with picture of fish and other aquatic creatures by children from the neighbouring villages.
The power plant is the newest of the VERBUND plant group “Grenzkraftwerke” (border power plant) and, despite its impressive output of 60 MW, is one of the smaller power plants in this group.

Turbines and generators: The two machine columns are equipped with sets of machinery from 1990-1992, each consisting of a Kaplan tubular turbine with horizontal shaft and a three-phase generator. The standard working capacity is 260 GWh per year.
Transformers: The electricity generated in the power plant is raised from 10.5 kV to 110 kV by means of two main transformers and fed into the grid via the power plant’s open-air switchgear.
Weir system: Pressure segment gates with attached flaps were installed in the weir fields.
Pump stations: To retain water in the backwater area, the station has three pump stations which are supplied and controlled from the power plant via auxiliary lines.

In 2013, VERBUND began building a fish bypass at the Oberaudorf-Ebbs power plant, which went into operation in 2014. It is divided into three sections and is located on the Austrian side of the Inn. The connection in the tailwater is via a natural basin pass, extends over the redesigned drainage channel as a natural body of water and leads via a slot pass to the exit in the confluence of the Jennbach and Inn. This enables migratory fish and aquatic creatures to migrate from the lower reaches into the section of water above the power plant. The new fish bypass overcomes a height difference of around 12.5 metres from the tailwater section of the power plant to the headwater section.
The fish bypass creates not only continuity but also new habitats: aquatic organisms receive additional habitats for foraging, reproduction and retreat during floods. These measures contribute significantly to the preservation and improvement of the fish population in the Inn.
