The Häusling pumped storage power plant is located in the town of Brandberg in the municipality of Mayrhofen, in a picturesque side valley of the Zillertal in the province of Tyrol.
The water reservoir of the VERBUND power plant is the Zillergründl reservoir at 1,850 metres above sea level – one of the many attractions in the region, in addition to the beautiful features of the Zillertal Alps Nature Park.
The Roßhag, Häusling and Mayrhofen power plant group is one of the most powerful storage power plant groups in Austria. The combination of storage and pumped storage power plants makes the three power plants indispensable as balancing and standard energy suppliers for the Austrian and European grid.

Over many years of cooperation between science, power generation and the authorities, the understanding between the interest groups has been deepened and meaningful, efficient solutions for the implementation discussed. A method has been developed for comparing the ecological effects or the ecological improvement potential of individual surge-absorbing measures with the corresponding system-relevant as well as economic and business effects.
