VERBUND’s Funsingau power plant is a storage power plant situated on the southern edge of the Gerlostal Valley in the municipality of Gerlos, Tyrol.
The power plant was built between 1963 and 1967. A machine set consisting of a Francis turbine and generator with a bottleneck capacity of 25,000 kW is installed in the power house. Every year, 27 GWh of valuable electricity is generated entirely from hydropower.

A vertically installed Francis turbine is used for electricity generation. This turbine uses a head that varies between 88.9 metres and 133.9 metres. The 27,000 kVA generator has a nominal voltage of 10,250 V.
The electricity generated is conducted via a 110 kV overhead line to the Gerlos transformer station in the Zillertal valley.

Achieving the environmental targets of the EU Water Framework Directive is essential for the national climate targets and for the implementation of the EU’s energy and climate packages. Over many years of cooperation between science, power generators and the authorities, the understanding of the different interests has been deepened and meaningful, efficient solutions for the implementation discussed. A method has been developed which compares the ecological effects or the ecological improvement potential of individual surge-absorbing measures with the corresponding system-relevant as well as economic and business effects.
