Technical description
Turbines and generators: The five-blade Kaplan spiral turbine with 15 impeller blades and 20 guide blades and an impeller diameter of 2.7 metres has a nominal output of 7,000 kW at a speed of 214.3 rpm. The turbine is directly coupled to an 8,500 kVA three-phase synchronous generator. The waste heat of the generator can be used in winter to heat the powerhouse.
Transformers: The energy obtained is raised to 30 kV by an 8,500 kVA machine transformer and transmitted via 30 kV lines to Teufenbach, St. Georgen and Predlitz. For the in-house needs of the entire plant (Mur and Paal), two 400 kVA transformers are available to convert between the 35 kV and 0.4 kV levels.
Weir system: Welded steel pressure segments with weir flaps close the two 11.5 metre-wide weir fields and have a closing height of 8.5 metres. The moving parts are controlled oil-hydraulically by two pull cylinders for raising the segments and a central push cylinder for lowering the flaps.
